Gray Jungle

There's concrete as far as the eye can see. All you can see is gray. The buildings are gray; the sky is gray; the people are gray.

It's been gray for months. Years, probably. Maybe even centuries. The people have become desensitized to the gray. It no longer bothers them. They don't even remember color.

They move about their daily lives as if in a daze. They never stop. One million people, two million people, three, four, five million people. All moving mindlessly through an endless amount of gray.

They pass each other but never see each other. Everyone is nothing more than a dark gray blur. Their eyes are gray. Their souls are masked. The people are all of one color, one size, one mind. What do they care of their fellow man?

The concrete jungle is a man eat man world. Survival of the grayest. Anyone who arrives who is not gray quickly fades. Only a matter of months before he becomes gray, too.

  1. The way that I have interpreted this post was that you were pointing out how cities can become great blobs of concrete mass without any individuality and because of that lack of uniqueness, the residents of such cities become repetitive and uniform beings that all have the same likes, hopes, and thoughts. Now, if that is in fact the message you are wishing to convey, I believe the picture of the city rooftops was an appropriate one because of the gray hue all of the buildings seem to have. The darkened sky also, lends itself to your idea of a gray world which is a nice touch. My only critique about the photo selection would have to be the diversity of architecture displayed; if there were more buildings that looked the same I feel it would be a better visual for the piece.

While I enjoyed the post itself I was confused as to the style of blog you placed it in, as well as the sections you broke the post into. Regarding the post, was the formation of several small paragraphs to lead the reader from one thought to the next or was it just to break up a massive block of text? The latter seems to be the more likely, my interpretation, as I feel the second, third, and fourth sections could be combined together. As for the blog, I am not sure as to why you would place such a post surrounded by nature unless it was to juxtapose the visual aesthetic with the bland scene described in the post. If so, perhaps a singular picture of better quality could be used to fulfill your desired effect, as opposed to the same picture of low resolution repeatedly. If this is to be a reoccurring theme in your blog, having the world be repetitive and gray, than I would even suggest changing the background to something duller and colder to give the reader a visual of the bleakness you are trying to express.
